Our Commitment to the Planet: Circle K’s Sustainability Journey

At Circle K, we’re dedicated to creating a positive impact on the environment through sustainable practices. As part of our ongoing sustainability journey, we operate under three key pillars: Prosperity, People, and Planet. Planet focuses on reducing our environmental footprint and driving positive change across all aspects of our business.

From October 2024, three EDF Renewables Ireland solar farms in Wexford and Kilkenny will power all 168 sites within Circle K’s company owned network reducing our carbon footprint and securing a long-term, stable price for renewable energy.

As well as its network of sites, the energy from these three solar farms will also power our electric vehicle charging network. Circle K already has the most advanced EV charging capabilities in Ireland through its strategic partnerships with Ionity, ESB and Tesla, with charging points located at 44 service stations nationwide.

Expanding Our EV Charging Network

As electric vehicles increase in popularity, we're committed to expanding our EV charging network across Ireland. By next year, we aim to have 30 sites equipped with EV chargers, making it easier for our customers to choose a greener mode of transport. This expansion is part of our broader strategy to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. We are also excited to share that from October we will be powering a number of these chargers with solar energy.

Our commitment to renewable energy extends to our fuel offering. We’re expanding our network of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) sites, with plans to add a further 10 locations by next year. HVO is a cleaner alternative to traditional diesel, and its increased availability will help more customers reduce their carbon footprint.

Innovating Biofuels

Looking ahead, we’re focused on the future of fuel. By 2025, we aim to introduce a biofuel blend with 25% renewable content. This innovation is part of our ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and provide customers with more sustainable fuel options, helping to drive a low-carbon future.

Recycling Water in Our Car Washes

Water conservation is another crucial aspect of our sustainability efforts. We are now including water recycling systems in our latest roll out of car washes in Ireland which will recycle up to 80% of washing water used. This initiative not only conserves a vital resource but also supports our broader goal of reducing our environmental impact.
